Thought of the day
Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.
It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect.
It is at the same time rewarding and maddening –
and it is without doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented.

Basic Rules

Maximum Clubs: Players are allowed to carry a maximum of 14 clubs in their bag during a round, including putter.

If you have more than 14 clubs, the rule is – a two-stroke penalty for each hole played with the extra club.

Teeing Off: When teeing off, you must place the ball behind the imaginary line created

by the two tee markers. You can tee up as far back as two club lengths behind the markers.

Playing the Ball as it lies: Unless stipulated before play commences (generally due to weather) You must play the ball as it lies.

Moving your ball to improve your lie is strictly prohibited and considered cheating.

Preferred lies on fairways (30cm) are allowed – no nearer the hole.

Water Hazard (Yellow): If you believe your ball is in a water hazard you have several options:

* Play it as it lies (no penalty).

* Replay the shot from the original position (add one stroke).

* Drop the ball behind the hazard, keeping the point where it last crossed the hazard line between you and the hole (add one stroke).

Lateral Water Hazard (Red):

* Play it as it lies (no penalty).

* Replay the shot from the original position (add one stroke).

* Drop within 2 club lengths (no nearer the hole) of where the ball last crossed the hazards margin.

* Drop in line with hazard entry and flagstick as far back as to the original shot as you like.

* Drop to a point across the hazard to the same distance to the hole where it last crossed that margin.

Lost Ball: To speed up play – If you play a ball and you think the ball is in serious trouble of being lost you are required to play

a provisional ball from the same position. You have three minutes to search for the lost ball.

If the original ball is found all good play on. If not, play on with the provisional ball costing a stroke & distance penalty.

(Mudlarks rule): If you lose your ball in a general area i.e. the rough area or tree lines and you have not played a provisional ball

you can draw an invisible line from where your agreed location of the lost ball was across to the fairway for a 2-stroke penalty.

Unplayable Lies: If you determine your ball is unplayable, you can take a penalty stroke and choose one

of the following options:

* Drop the ball within two club lengths of where it lies, not closer to the hole (adding one stroke).

* Replay the shot from the original position (adding one stroke).

* Drop the ball in line with original ball position as far back as you like on the same line as the flag (adding one stroke).

Out of Bounds: You basically have 2 options if you hit your ball out of bounds.

* You can play again from the spot of your previous stroke to play under the stroke & distance penalty.

* You can estimate the spot where your ball went out of bounds (point of entry) and drop a ball within two club lengths of the

nearest point on the fairway that is not closer to the hole than the estimated spot, this option incurs a 2-stroke penalty.

If unsure ask your playing partner or group.
